Small & Medium Business Human Resources (SMB Human Resources) is Source Media's new magazine on "HR and benefit strategies for small and midsize businesses." (Click for a PDF of the October issue, or an online current edition.)
The magazinehas just posted Lynn Gresham's latest article, From Cost Center to Strategic Advisor. "HR managers in SMBs are well-positioned to be strategic business
partners," she observes, "but only if they understand how to add value to the company." The article provides real-life examples, valuable insights, even some tips on how to integrate HR into the business side of any organization.
I was one of many people interviewed for the article (and pleased to see four pretty good quotes make the final cut). But the most important reason to read the column is that it is excellent. Instead of management theory and philosophy (the bane of most strategic-HR musings), you'll get some down-to-earth, practical perspective on the strategic challenges facing HR and benefit professionals. If you're in the
business, whether in plan administration or at the CEO's right hand, you’ll
find something of interest there for you.
From Cost Center to Strategic Advisor is well worth your attention. (And the sidebars may merit a quick printout.) If you're so inclined, please leave a comment at the site. I'm sure that Ms. Gresham, and the editors, would appreciate your feedback.
P.S. Just got a copy of the November issue (click here to download). The strategic HR article is the lead story, but there are others you may find valuable, too, such as a good piece on fiduciary concerns. Do download the PDF, but please be sure to leave a comment on the SMBHR site. Thanks!
